About Judith and Tammy
Tammy and I have been together for 2 and a half years. We are developing a lovely bond and increasing our skills together – both of us are green and need lots of further training and experience. I am absolutely besotted by this beautiful horse – I love just spending time with her in the paddock. I love the fact that she listens to my voice when I am out at events and is reassured when she knows Im nearby.

Achievements and Goals

Highest Achievement

Recently selected for the Arabian Horse Society WA Talent squad.
Champion rider and champion hack over 15 hh

Highest Achievement with Tammy
The transformation of Tammy from a horse that was ridden twice in 2 years with the previous owner, to a horse that is ridden nearly every day, and does her best for me – when I ride her properly.

Being voted “Best Purebred Arabian” in a Facebook photo competition – I was very pleased that my friends all supported us so that I could bring Tammy’s life as a ridden Purebred Arabian out and about competing at lots of different events – the next event I went to, someone asked me as I was unloading Tam off the float – “oh is that Tammy the chestnut Arab on Facebook ??” She’s a star!!

Last Years Placings/Achievements

Champion for our class at Kelmscott 3 phase series

Completed 4 x 25km rides with WA endurance riders
– vet checked through with excellent scores

Completed 6 ODEs :
3 at Wallangarra, 1 each at Murray, Serpentine and Peel
(technically eliminated but we still finished each phase)

This Years Placings/Achievements
Apart from anything I have entered and completed, placed in or won, my biggest achievement has been overcoming my own fears and anxieties about riding in front of other people.

My great pleasure in the improvements that Tammy and I have made together is the most significant and meaningful achievement I can strive for – if we score well with the judges, or if we don’t, is less important than how I feel about how well Tammy
performed and how well I helped her as her rider. These are my personal assessments of the particular challenges that we face – Im very happy with how we are going.

I am also very pleased and happy to have personally promoted the awesomeness of Arabians as ridden horses – a personal achievement that fits well with my passion for these amazing animals

Highlight of the Season so far
Being recently selected for the AHSA WA Talent squad is incredibly fantastic, but I am super delighted by the fact that I even dared to apply being a slightly older rider – but I decided that if my horse met the criteria, then we were going to go for it.

Riding Goal this Year
To compete in the State Arabian championships, complete the 25km social ride at Dwellingup next weekend, and hopefully another 1 or 2 ODEs before the end of the year. Compete in All Arabian show early next year

Future Riding Ambitions

Doing my best to prepare and train for the A class Arabian shows held in Perth.
To keep seeking improvements, and just get better together !

Questionnaire

Riding History:
Had 10 lessons when I was 9. Got my first pony when I was 12. Bought a 2yo strawberry roan AngloArabian when I was 14 – this was the start of my love and admiration for the Arabian horse.

When did you start riding and why?

When I was 9.

What do you enjoy most about riding ?
The relationship with the horses.

How often do you ride ?
Usually daily.

What do you think is your best riding discipline ?
General all rounder.

How long have you been competing with Tammy ?
This is my second year.

What is your favourite competition accessory?
My helmet.

What is your favourite event and why ?
Endurance - I love the fact that the priority is given to the welfare of the horse. Well organised and well supported , lovely rides in new areas where I haven’t ridden before.

What do you do outside of the Horse world?

Mobile small animal veterinarian working in my own practice, doing home visits for pets. I love working for myself and giving the time I want to each client and their special furry friends.

Interests/hobbies:
Prior to getting back into horses and riding, I did have another life – but now there isn’t time – and Im absolutely fine with that. I can resume playing guitar when I have to eventually retire from my riding adventures. I love reading but there isn’t time for that either.

What are your Future Ambitions out side of the horse world:
I have done lots of travelling in my earlier years – have some wonderful memories of great places I have been – many of these would be great to go back to , but I don’t want to be away from my horses. I have done some very interesting work as a vet, but now I love working for myself and doing things my own way which gives a great deal of satisfaction in relationships with clients and their pets. So really just happy to stay at home, ride my horses, see my lovely clients and follow my interests in alternative therapies such as reiki, photonic therapy, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese veterinary medicine.
